Important Note: The order in which objects are selected for parenting is important! The object that is selected first will become the child and the object that is selected last will become the parent.
Defining a child/parent relationship between two objects is commonly referred to as "parenting" one object to another object. When parenting one object to another, the object being "parented" becomes the child. The object that is "parented to" becomes the parent.
- Select the object that you wish to become the child of another object in Blender's 3D view or outliner window by right-clicking the object.
- With the first object still selected, hold down on the shift key and right click on the object that you wish to become the parent of the first object. Both objects should now be selected. The order in which the objects is selected is important! The object that is selected first will become the child and the object that is selected last will become the parent.
- Press ctrl-p to parent the first object to the second object. The first object that was selected is now the child of the second object that was selected.
