Creating Action Strips

Action strips are used to lay out actions on Blender's NLA timeline.

Creating Action Strips

  1. In Blender's NLA window, move the current frame indicator (green line) to the frame where you would like to add the action strip.  The current frame can be changed by left-clicking inside the NLA window, or by using the left and right arrow keys:
  2. Click the "Strip" menu in the header of the NLA window and select the "Add action strip" option, or use the "shift-a" keyboard shortcut:
  3. A menu will appear showing a list of all available actions.  Click the name of the desired action from the menu, and a new action strip will appear on the timeline at the current frame.

After adding, action strips can be selected by right clicking them, and moved to a different location on the timeline by using the "grab" keyboard shortcut ("g" key).  It is recommend that you hold down on the ctrl key while moving action strips to constrain the motion to whole numbered frames.  If action strips become misaligned, they can be snapped to the nearest whole numbered frame by using the Strip->Snap->Nearest Frame menu option.
